Granita is the fine-dining, signature restaurant of the award-winning Kievits Kroon Country Estate, just outside of Pretoria. Located in the Manor House opposite 41 Library Bar, Granita has just 12 tables in the restaurant, 10 on the terrace, and can seat up to 12 people in the adjacent wine cellar. The restaurant and terrace look across the exquisite, manicured gardens and expansive lawns of the estate to the lap pool. Head Chef Sammy Mashile focuses on creating seasonal menus using fresh organic produce provided by local farmers and producers. Some of the herbs, vegetables and fruit he uses are grown on the estate. Dishes are innovative, and interesting combinations are married to deliver an exquisite dining experience. The estate, known as the Winelands in Gauteng, has won five consecutive Diamond awards (2009 - 2013) in the Diners Club Wine List Awards for its outstanding wine list, which features select international and South African wines. It has also bottled its own Cap Classique, and sauvignon blanc and grand rouge wines.
Head Chef Sammy Mashile joined the Kievits Kroon team in December 2009 as Executive Sous Chef. He was promoted to the position of Head Chef in October 2010. Born in Pretoria in 1973, Chef Sammy started his career in 2003 trained at the Garankuwa Hotel School, and went on to work in almost every hotel department, including stores and purchasing. His career as a chef includes training at Protea Hotels, and time spent at The Sheraton, Sunnyside Park Hotel and Kopanong Hotel, amongst others.
