Timbavati Picnic Site is named as such, because it overlooks the usually dry Timbavati River. Trees and thatch "umbrellas" provide for the shade, making for a very pleasant picnic site. Lying in a game rich area, and easily accessible from Satara and Orpen, Timbavati is a very popular spot for your breakfast or lunch.
Timbavati, in line with most other picnic sites, has a kiosk from which you can purchase cold soft drinks, and hire your gas cannister. Picnic tables are placed under Trees and thatch "umbrellas" so as to keep you out of the rays of the direct sun.
Timbavati Features
You can have you meal whilst looking at the river bank on the far side for animals coming down to drink from pools of water on the river bed. If you're lucky you'll see the resident bushbuck who are very tame. However - as the sign says - please don't feed them, otherwise they may become dependent on humans feeding them!

Timbavati Picnic site is 50km/2hr from Orpen, via the H7/S12/S40, and 27km/1hr from Satara, using the H1-4/S127 route.
