The word 'Geet' in Hindi means 'melodious poem' and the cuisine at Geet echoes this sentiment. Landing in Brooklyn with nothing more than a small suitcase and a love of food, Gita Jivan found her very first culinary love - to feed the world at large.
Geet is a family-run concern with a unique menu based on the Indian philosophy of using natural seasonal flavours, enhanced by classic technique and utilizing the freshest possible ingredients. Distinguishable culinary excellence derived from years of experience which brings you delicious recipes for the appetites of today, while continuing to create exciting new dishes for the future. The chefs at Geet delight in procuring original ingredients imported from the country of origin. As a complementary practice, Gita and her chefs like to work with local farmers to obtain the organic products they need, to produce the fresh essentials that make all the difference to each dish which they serve.
As the first Indian woman to open and own an establishment of this calibre in South Africa, she's also an astute business mind -- and her many awards acknowledge the quality of her cuisine as well as her entrepreneurial instinct. Gita Jivan is a nationally celebrated chef/restaurateur specializing in all styles of Indian cuisine. As a little girl, she spent time learning the ancient traditions of classical Indian cuisine. At age ten, Gita realized her deep connection to food sprung from an even deeper connection to her history thereby learning family traditions from her mother
Geet also boasts an exclusive Single Malt Whisky Lounge and Library which seats up to 25 guests. It's adorned by silk drapes for total privacy, on soft cushions and pillows lit with lamps and smoky mirrors. Also displayed by ornate wooden cabinets filled with books to read and enjoy whilst sipping a whisky or enjoying the warmth of a cognac.
Geet is a fast growing Indian brand in South Africa. Creativity, innovation, and vision come together - along with the finest all natural ingredients and spices - to transport you to the exotic world of zesty flavour where you can relish the essence of top-notch Indian cuisines.
