ABSA Art Gallery

Johannesburg

It's a brilliant one of a kind gallery, do not miss it!

The ABSA Art Gallery is not a public gallery in the usual sense. This gallery is a collection of works that were commissioned during the build of the ABSA building and are now housed inside its walls.

The ABSA Towers house the Banking Headquarters of the global ABSA Company. Whilst it was being constructed it was decided by the architects that its sheer magnitude, high ceilings and open spaces were a great way to display art works. Working together with local artists they have created unique pieces that are perfectly framed by the structure of the building.

Open to the public, the gallery fills the offices and communal areas throughout the whole building. Combining established and upcoming artists there are pieces such as 'Place of Nature' in the reception area, a hand-woven carpet banner measuring over six stores high. There is even a two-storey metal mobile display of the old city of Johannesburg.

It is a unique gallery to visit and one that leaves you wanting even more!
