Melville Koppies Nature Reserve

Johannesburg

Melville Koppies Nature Reserve and Heritage site is a wonderful natural asset right in the middle of Johannesburg. Three billion year old quartzite ridges support unique indigenous flora. Early Stone Age man once walked these Koppies (little hills) and left a few tools behind. Iron Age settlements proliferated and a 500 year-old furnace is preserved here. Guided tours cover all aspects of the Koppies; geology, flora, fauna, archaeology, modern history and ecological management.

Tours are available every Sunday, but if you can get a group of people together, group tours of at least ten people can be arranged at other times.
