The Elephant Sanctuary is located near the Hartebeespoort Dam around 30 minutes away from Sandton in Johannesburg. The aim of the experience is to ensure the maximum elephant interaction for each guest, making this a truly memorable and enriching experience.
At the same time visitors get an opportunity to walk 'trunk-in-hand' with these enormous animals. The Sanctuary also teaches its guests about the different personalities that elephants have and their behaviour and anatomy - all through up-close and personal interaction.
A highlight of the visit to The Elephant Sanctuary is the elephant walk. This is unique because you actually walk trunk-in-hand with your elephant 'partner'
The main focus of The Elephant Sanctuary is one of education. You will get the opportunity to actually touch and feel an elephant and to get a closer look at what your instructor is teaching you.
You are also offered a short elephant-back ride which is conducted in a controlled environment. This makes is a safe yet exciting experience and lasts ten to fifteen minutes.
