The clubhouse at the Johannesburg Country Club in Woodmead is one of Joburg’s most impressive, and the sweeping steps that lead down towards the course add a sense of grandeur to even the most casual of rounds. The Johannesburg Country Club has been around since 1906, with various sporting facilities located throughout the city, each of which are steeped in history and tradition.

There are two top class courses located on the JCC grounds; Woodmead, which opened in 1968, and Woodlands, which opened in 1992. You’ll have a tough time choosing which one to play, because you’ll find that most members favour them equally.
Both courses offer 18 holes and are par 72, and each have their fair share of tricky layouts and the occasional wide, rewarding, fairways. This is really what makes this one of the most enjoyable clubs in the region, because pros and amateurs alike will revel in the clever design and balanced nature of the courses. And, if your first 18 didn’t go quite as well as expected, you can always give the other course a shot.
