Description

Lesedi Cultural Village is located in the heart of the African bushveld amidst the rocky hills within the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site. Discover the fascinating cultures and traditions of the people of Africa, visiting five traditional homesteads inhabited by Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho and Ndebele tribes who live according to tribal folklore and traditions of their ancestors. “Our culture is the light of our nation – whoever walks here amongst our cultures at Lesedi Cultural Village can also see the light. Le village culturel de Lesedi est situé au cœur de la brousse africaine, au milieu des collines rocheuses du berceau de l’humanité, un site du patrimoine mondial. Découvrez les cultures et les traditions fascinantes des peuples d’Afrique, en visitant cinq fermes traditionnelles habitées par les tribus zouloues, xhosa, pedis, basotho et ndébélés qui vivent selon le folklore tribal et les traditions de leurs ancêtres. « Notre culture est la lumière de notre nation – quiconque se promène ici parmi nos cultures à Lesedi Cultural Village The Voortrekker Monument was completed in 1949 and was designed by architect Gerard Moerdijk. The monument is 40 meters high and is constructed from granite. The structure is an impressive example of Afrikaner architectural style and is adorned with intricate sculptures and carvings that depict the struggles and triumphs of the Voortrekkers. Thousands of Afrikaners gather in and around the Monument every year on 16 December to commemorate the Vow and look on as a ray of sunlight shines through the opening in the top dome of the Monument at exactly 12:00 and fall on the center of the cenotaph to illuminate the words, “Ons vir jou, South Africa” (We for thee, South Africa).
