Cube Tasting Kitchen
Johannesburg
At Cube Tasting Kitchen they encourage you to break free from conventional eating and to explore a realm of gastronomical adventure which will tantalise every taste bud. It is an intimate 30 seat tasting kitchen where one can enjoy 10 courses of something different. With simple décor celebrity Chef Dario D'Angeli offers innovative tasting menus at a set price, but invites customers to bring wines at no charge. It is emphasized that they are in the business of selling food, not wine. The white coated chefs entertain each table throughout the night explaining each course which adds a great personal touch.
To make a reservation use the 'Dineplan Widget' on their website. Please note reservations on this widget are accepted 24 hours prior to date of reservations. No reservations are accepted on the same day. The widget allows for tables of up to 12 Guests. The widget will indicate how many seats are left for the night you are wanting to reserve for. If there is an X over the day they are fully booked and if you do not receive an automatic email confirmation, your reservation was unsuccessful. Once confirmed, a copy of the current menu (changes once per month) will be sent to you with wine / champagne pairings.
This food emporium experience (using fresh, locally sourced ingredients) is more than mere degustation, offering never-ending food pleasures. The theme is sources, textures and colours, so you could move from a hot, white apple drink topped with a spiced marshmallow to a platter of black chocolate items, including a 'brownie' of choc pasta and a pot of gooey chocolate into which to splash liquorice Pastis. In between come the brighter colours for example, small yellow-spiced crab bisque with candied fennel. Previous patrons have mentioned tasting delicacies such as veggie ice cream, olive oil pearls, vinaigrette jelly, calamari mousse and beetroot marshmallow with red pepper rock candy. Make sure to bring at least 3 bottles of wine, and preferably one bottle of champagne to start the night.
At The Cube Tasting Kitchen they believe the table is a place that has long since been forgotten as a source of fun and conversation and encourage lengthy dinners filled with lots of wine, food and conversation.
