Blyde River Canyon

Over the last few years, a number of exciting and worthwhile routes have been established around the country, but few are as beautiful and breathtaking as the Panorama Route.

This popular route winds its way through the spectacular northern Drakensburg mountains in Mpumalanga province, along the north-eastern stretch of the Great Escarpment, and ultimately down towards the open plains of the spectacular Lowveld – nearly a kilometre below. Along the way, it meanders through a number of quaint towns and villages, including the likes of Hazyview, Graskop, Pilgrims Rest, Sabie, and Hoedspruit, each of which have something worthwhile to offer.

This well-established route now offers those driving to the Kruger Park and the Lowveld the chance to turn the journey into an exciting part of the holiday, and you can easily plan a few days either side of your trip to Kruger to explore everything it has to offer.

The main draw card is still the region’s natural wonders, which include God’s Window, The Pinnacle, the awesome Blyde River Canyon, as well as the Bourkes Luck Potholes. At the same time, there are now a number of other attractions that have sprung up along the way, which include a selection of fine restaurants, high-quality hotels, bed and breakfasts, and lodges, as well as various markets and outdoor activities.

If you want a great overview of the Panorama Route, then this is a superb video - although somewhat long -  to watch. We bet you'll be booking a place here as soon as you have finished looking at the video.
