Co-op Art Showroom
Johannesburg
The Co-op is an art showroom displaying the best in art and design. The Dorker and Misses showroom and workshop displays a project space named 'WHATIFTHEWORLD', which is based on limited edition contemporary prints and art work on paper, with new pieces being released on a monthly basis.
The main exhibits change on a regular basis and are based on relevant goings on in southern Africa. A recent exhibition was named 'Conflict Resolution' and concentrates on the issues of conflict in contemporary Africa. The focus is on each individual's understanding of conflict and therefore their understanding of what defines resolution.
Exhibitions and displays are created by artists like Kudzanai Chiurai who was born in 1981 and is now an internationally acclaimed young artist and the first black student to graduate with a BA in Fine Art from the University of Pretoria. His early work focuses on political, economic and social strife in his homeland of Zimbabwe, and he has gradually moved on to confront issues like xenophobia, displacement and black empowerment.
