This tour begins in Kliptown, one of Soweto’s oldest districts, with a visit to Soccer City Stadium, nicknamed The Calabash. Located in Nasrec on the edge of Soweto, the stadium hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup final and holds nearly 95,000 spectators. It now hosts concerts and various sporting events.
Next, you will visit the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum in Orlando West, dedicated to the students who fought apartheid, with a focus on the 1976 Soweto Uprising led by school children.
Explore Vilakazi Street, the only street worldwide that housed two Nobel Laureates: Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will see Mandela’s first home after his release from 27 years of imprisonment and pass Tutu’s residence.
