This tour focuses on Braamfontein’s street art and street culture, revealing the district’s creative energy and cultural sites. The tour begins at Skinner Cafe, where the guide shares Braamfontein’s history, from its family farm origins in 1853 to its current status as a student hub.
You will learn about notable murals such as Shepard Fairey’s 2014 'The Purple Shall Govern!' and Faith47’s 2021 'Goldust.' Visits include local streetwear stores operated by African entrepreneurs popular among streetwear enthusiasts.
Walking along Juta Street, the tour passes migrant-run businesses before visiting the 'Boys of Soweto' showroom, showcasing luxury locally made clothing and the brand's evolution since 2011.
The tour also stops at The Commune bookstore, specializing in Pan-African literature, and features Hannelie Coetzee’s 2018 “Nzunza” pottery installation celebrating Ndebele heritage.
