Description
The Cradle of Humankind is not simply a scenic landscape. It is the site where some of the oldest known hominin fossils on earth were discovered, remains that permanently altered how science understands human evolution. Your morning begins with a hotel or residence pickup, followed by light refreshments including coffee, tea, and pastries at the launch site. While the balloon is inflated, your pilot provides a pre-flight safety briefing and introduces you to the mechanics and history of ballooning before you step into the basket.
The flight itself follows the wind at low altitude, tracing the contours of the Magaliesberg foothills, the fossil cave clusters below the ridgeline, and the open grassland corridors that ancient hominins once moved through. Your pilot contextualises what you are seeing, pointing out the cave systems of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans, and Kromdraai, and explaining why this particular stretch of dolomite geology became the cradle that the name describes.
