Meet your guide at Vilakazi Espresso, a coffee shop in the heart of Soweto.
The tour will begin at the Hector Pieterson Memorial where you will learn about the high school kids who took it to the streets standing up against the apartheid government where a young black student (among many) was gunned down by the police.
Next, walk around the streets of Orlando, learning about the area’s history. Stop for lunch and taste some local cuisine. Then, head to Vilakazi Street, where you’ll find the Nelson Mandela Museum, and Desmond Tutu’s house. Browse local vendors selling African handcrafted accessories, such as bracelets, necklaces, and caps.
Then a shuttle will pick you up to make your way to Constitutional Hill in Braamfontein for a guided tour of this iconic institution.
Constitution Hill is a story of South Africa’s journey to democracy. The site is a former prison and military fort that bears testament to South Africa’s turbulent past. Today, it’s home to the country’s Constitutional Court, which endorses the rights of all citizens.
