Road, Railway and Air Transport

Johannesburg is "Egoli" the "City of Gold", a world class city in Africa, and the business hub of South and southern Africa.

For this reason OR Tambo International Airport is amongst the best airports in the world and it now caters for some 17 million passengers a year. And we also have superb international airports situated in centres such as Cape Town and Durban, and several of our smaller airports, such as Lanseria International Airport and the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, are rapidly growing into new international airports. Connected to OR Tambo Airport is the magnificant Gautrain integrated rapid rail and bus transport system. This is limited at the moment, with the Gautrain itself serving only to connect passengers travelling to or from OR Tambo Airport to Sandton in the north of Joburg, and from Sandton to Pretoria.

However, Johannesburg Metropolitan Area lacks a convenient public transportation system. This is why most residents and tourists are dependent on the road infrastructure to get around. The metro bus and railway systems are not suitable options for tourists who do not know their way around Joburg.

Undoubtedly the best options for a tourist to use are planes, certain vehicles using the road system, and/or the Gautrain.
