Description

Lesedi Cultural Village is a tourist destination located near Johannesburg, South Africa, within the Cradle of Humankind. It showcases the cultural traditions of several Southern African people groups through replicated traditional dwellings and demonstrations of dances and other cultural activities. The village was established in 1993 and features homesteads representing the Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho, and Ndebele tribes. Members of these communities live at Lesedi and participate in the demonstrations and cultural presentations. Lesedi's name comes from a quote by King Moshoeshoe, which translates to 'Our culture is the light of our nation.' The village serves as a way to educate visitors about the rich cultural heritage of South Africa and to promote understanding between cultures.
