Description
Begin your tour of Soweto with a trip to the Apartheid Museum to learn all about this dark period in South Africa’s history. Enter Soweto through the military entrance, and make your way to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Once the largest in the world, it is now the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and all of Africa. Visit a squatter’s camp, the twin towers of Orlando Power Park, open hair salons, spaza shops, the first high school in Soweto, the first township of Soweto, and arrive at Walter Sisulu Freedom Square. Continue on to Regina Mondi Church, the historic meeting place of many formerly banned political parties, Credo Mutwa Village, home to a remarkable collection of sculptures and buildings, and the Hector Pieterson Memorial, unveiled by Nelson Mandela in 1992. Explore Vilakazi Street Precinct - the only street in the world to boast two Nobel Prize Winners as residents. Mandela and Desmond Tutu both lived on this street, and it is here you will find the Nelson Mandela House Museum.Includes
