Directions to Shimuwini Bushveld Camp
Shimuwini, Shangaan for "Place of the Baobab Tree" is a tranquil bushveld camp situated in the heart of baobab country of the nearby Letaba river. This special camp consists of a number of cottages overlooking this beautiful river, and it has built up a loyal following from Kruger Park regulars. Despite being significantly damaged during the devastating floods in 2000, the camp was almost entirely rebuilt, and it now offers superb facilities inline with the understated techniques that characterise the game reserve's bushveld camps.
The area is home to a wide selection of game which can be spotted amongst the diverse bushwillow, mopane, acacia and leadwood vegetation characteristic here.
Common in the area: Lion, hippo and hyena are regularly seen around Shimuwini.
If you are lucky you may see: Cheetah and leopard can be seen, and sightings of the elusive caracal have also been reported - a sighting of which is a truly unique and unusual experience. Sable, roan antelope, tsessebe, and eland sightings are possible, making for an exciting experience. Bird life is also diverse and fascinating, with the Pel's Fishing Owl being one of the most sought-after birds in the region.
There are five two-bed cottages, nine two-bed guest cottages, and one three-bed guest cottage, all of which are tastefully and comfortably equipped.
