Punda Maria Camp
Johannesburg
Punda Maria Safari Camp is widely revered for its fascinating historical significance. Once an early 1900s hide-out for illegal ivory smugglers, this beautiful camp has built up a sound following, primarily from bird watchers who travel to the area to track down its numerous rare species. Whilst wildlife is not as concentrated up in these northern reaches of the Kruger Park, its spectacular scenery, and serenity, more than make up for this.
Game Viewing:
Common in the area: Sightings of large elephant and buffalo herds are not uncommon in this area, while the elusive Nyala is regularly seen feeding on the various sandveld plant species. Birdlife also flourishes in the area, and spectacular sightings are common, even from the comfort of the rest camp.
If you are lucky you may see:Lions, leopard and the Paradise Fly Catcher.
Accommodation:
Punda Maria offers a variety of accommodation options, with camp sites, permanent fixed tents, and a variety of bungalows.
