Mopani Camp
Johannesburg
Mopani Rest Camp, which rests on the banks of the
beautiful Pioneer Dam, gets its name from the vegetation that dominates this unique region of the Kruger Park. With a superb viewing deck overlooking the dam, guests are able to relax at any of the different vantage points and take in the beauty of the wilderness without leaving the comfort of the campsite. And with sightings of hippopotamus, waterbuck and African Fish Eagles all common from this vantage point, many choose spend their time doing just this. The camp itself, with rock-faced walls and thatched roofs, along with the natural vegetation and its well known baobab, feels particularly natural and secluded, despite being amongst the larger of the park's rest camps.
Game Viewing
Outside of the camp's gates, the thick Mopani
bushveld can make game viewing tricky, particularly during the rainy season, however that's not to say the animals aren't there.
Common in the area: Waterbuck, impala, elephants, buffalo and warthog.
If you are lucky you may see: Lions and the rare tsessebe antelope, and perhaps even a leopard.
